Canberra Round of NSW Travellers Series Cancelled
Due to a range of circumstances the ACT round (25/26th October) of
the NSW travellers series has had to be removed from the series.
This decision has not been taken lightly and was as a result of
consultation with the sailors at the Forster regatta and follow-up phone
conversations. It appears that other commitments, the
cost of fuel and the availability of accommodation has contributed to
unavailability of Taipan's for the weekend.
The regatta at YMCA will still be held and it is only the status as a
round of the travellers series that has been cancelled.
Hope to see you on 1/2nd November at Kurnell.

Trial Bay Regatta Cancelled
Unfortunately the November Trial Bay Regatta has had to be cancelled.
The good news is that Kim and Justin of the Nambucca River Sailing Club have a
brand new baby girl called Kaitlyn. So we'll all have to wait for the Darren
Lowder Memorial Regatta on 7th and 8th of March to travel to this great sailing
location.

Eater Regatta - Lake Bullen Merri (Round 8 Vic
Travellers Series)
Yachting Western
Victoria will be hosting an Easter Regatta at Lake
Bullen Merri near Camperdown. This event was well
supported last year with approximately 90 boats and good cheap camping available
on the lake front. The lake is an old volcano so there is plenty of water (70
metres or so deep), while the wind is ... interesting !!! The Easter regatta
provides a great opportunity to come together as a class for a bit of social fun
and sailing with other classes. We welcome classes, and even titles if required
during the event. If you have any queries on the event, please contact
Matt Kirby,
mkirby@warrnambool.vic.gov.au
This will also be Round 8 of the Victorian Travellers Series
Hope to see you there

Forster Weekend Regatta Report (Dec 10)
Super Series goes to Braithwaite Team There was plenty of heavy traffic at
the top mark with some of seasons closest racing during Sundays three race super
series. As the storm clouds approached the gusting seas breeze reached close to
20 knots the racing became intense and the margins for error minimal. The races
were led by the two Taipan crews of Scott Machon/ Bryce Haffner and Mark/ Sophia
Braithwaite. These two were relentlessly pursued by the A Class of Fabrice
Boone. The A Class was most certainly at its design limit with the gusting winds
and choppy lake conditions putting a huge stress in the super light weight
boat's carbon mast. The Hobie 16 and NACRA boats maintained a three race battle
to the end with the finishing results alternating throughout the series. It was
the Braithwaite Team on AUS283 who were narrow winners over the fast finishing
Machon/Haffner Team of AUS163. The Braithwaite team have shown great form since
the State titles and now prepare for the National Titles in QLD during the New
Year.

Congratulations to John Demeo on winning the mainsail sponsored by AHPC for the 2005/06 Travellers Series. Thanks again to GREG and AHPC for this wonderful prize and for your support. Report
Below is an e-mail from Greg Goodall after the recent F18 Worlds, and a reply from the USA dealer. Congratulations to all the Capricorn sailors who attended the worlds.
Hopefully
you have been watching the F18 world’s results; 1st Christian and
Helge Sach, and 3rd Andrew Landenberger and Felix Egner
was a fantastic result for the Capricorn. We had about 35 boats in the fleet of
160. This made us the 2nd biggest class of F18 at the Worlds and we
had by far the best result. We also won 1st place in the silver
fleet. It’s good for F18 sailing to show that talented sailors on a very good
boat can still beat the professional teams.
We
will keep working hard to make the Capricorn even better and faster before the
next Worlds. Over the next 12 months we have a great opportunity to establish
the Capricorn as the F18 of choice.
To
all who have contributed to making this boat such a success, my sincere thanks.
Best
regards,
Greg
This
is great news....congrats to all....I think we are about to explode with the
Capricorn in the US and we are very excited about being on board. Robbie
Daniel, who is a Tornado sailor, like Sachs, Landenberger and Darren Bundock and
Glenn Ashby, said that the Capricorn was the first boat that he has sailed other
than the Tornado that gives you the sportcar feel of the Tornado.
By the looks of things, many other Olympic sailors are looking at the F18 Capricorn to
do their cross training.
Darren
Bundock and Glenn Ashby have been on fire in every race they have sailed this
year. It was painfully obvious that their choice of boats, being a
Tiger, really hurt their performance at the Worlds. I believe this is one
of the first times they have been beat by the Sach brothers after racing for
years against them in the Tornado class. Although the Sachs are
great sailors in their own right, it is obvious to see that the boat did them
well!
Congrats to everyone. Glad to be on board the Capricorn express. We look forward to distributing all the AHPC in the US and we are finding the Capricorn buzz growing here almost as fast as in Europe.
Jill Nickerson – USA Dealer
