Taipan 5.7

Proposed Rule Changes

There have been some changes proposed for the 5.7 Rules. If you are a 5.7 sailor, have your say by emailing the Association.

The current rules can be found on this site under Class Rules

The first draft of marked up proposed changes (not yet including the sail plan) can be found here.

In Summary

1. Big Head Main

Higher Aspect Ratio, similar to 4.9. No change to Sail Area

Comments

This will be a face lift for the boat and will, if the 4.9 is any indication, lift performance.

2. Cantered or Vertical Hulls Optional

Allow for wedges to be removed if required.

Comments

No significant impact on costs.

3. Self Tacking Jib (or old style)

Comments

4. Restriction on Boom and Bowsprit materials lifted

Comments

5. Restriction on Tapeze Line Material Lifted

Comments

Using a modern non metallic line means, same strength for only a slightly larger diameter, no metal fatigue, no surprise swims or broken tiller extensions. You can even tie knots in it.
