Sail trim

Upwind

  • Forget your tell tails!

  • In lighter airs trim to your leach tell tails, pull the sail in till the top one is starting to wrap around to the leeward side

  • Learn your pointing angle as a quick reference where your angle of the porn tape on your fore stay is and sail to that

  • Once your Hull starts to fly just drive to keep your hull up and the leech still working

  • As wind increases and you're stretched out on the wire you can start pulling on some down haul. Note as you pull down haul you can get more main sheet on too

  • Keep cranking on the down haul as long as you can still fly the hull, as soon as the hull is dropping in the water too much release some down haul

  • Downhaul should be maxed out at around 15k

  • Mast rotation, don't get too involved with it

  • Mast rotation angles for me

  • Light to half down haul - pointing somewhere around the outside of the rear beam

  • Half down haul to max - in a bit more

  • Max to F#&@ wish I had more down haul - centered, or as centered as possible

  • Outhaul, don't get too involved, set around 50mm off the boom

  • Constantly playing main sheet through gusts and waves

Downwind

This tip is credited to a young Yoda/ Wazza/ Warren Morse.

  • Traveller full out

  • Main sheet tension just hard enough so the traveller car is just bouncing off the end bolt of the traveller

  • Out haul off full, don't worry about it 15k n over (I think)

  • Sheet on in a gust, but only to keep that same bounce on the trav
